VisDev: Synopsis

"When good intentions go astray, two people must learn how to forgive each other and themselves in order to grow."

------

In this retelling of the classic tale of Cupid and Psyche, Cupid is a twelve-year-old tween eager to prove his worth as a mage and make a positive difference in his community. Psyche, a 20-something woman self-conscious about her disabled hand seeks the aid of magic as a last-resort.

When they meet, Cupid uses his limited practice of magic to help shape Psyche's hand into looking "normal", despite his mother's warning of meddling with magic outside of his range. Although happy with her new-found confidence, it's not enough as Psyche abuses the magic to fix other aspects of her appearance. But when her misplaced vanity leads the charms to back-fire, she is transformed into a beast and must team-up with Cupid to undo the curse.

Meanwhile, the pair's sudden disappearance fuels rising conflicts between the two races in the city; those of magic descent and those who are not. While some are blaming the illegal presence of magic for Psyche's absence, others argue that mages shouldn't be blamed when people abuse and appropriate matters they have no proper knowledge of.

In a quest to clear their names and stop a civil war before it begins, Cupid and Psyche must learn to accept their imperfect-humanity in order to move forward and fix the mess they've created.

Exploring themes such as appreciation v. appropriation, intent v. impact, and conviction v. condemnation, Cupid & Psyche questions the complexities of society, race, and class through the lens of two characters in a fictional setting based in real-life circumstances.
